Can you believe that today is Thanksgiving? I’m scratching my head at how fast time flew by. Soon enough it’ll be the holidays, then we’ll be waltzing into the new year. Crazy, huh?
I know that there will be tons of posts on Thanksgiving, what people are thankful for, recipe ideas, and so forth – so as much as I’d like to spare you the repetition, I feel like it’s only right to make an obligatory post among this topic. Don’t you agree? But, on the bright side I will be switching it up with a mix of what I’m thankful for, my take on this holiday, and of course, my outfit!
What am I thankful for?
I’m extremely thankful for all of the people who have walked in and out of my life. Each and everyone of you has helped shape me to who I am today. I’m thankful for the good and most importantly the bad, because you can’t climb to the top without starting from the bottom. Huge thank you to all the people who have stayed and helped lift me higher when I needed it the most. Special thanks to all my supporters out there who believe in me and root for me from the sidelines. Shout out to all the haters because you all are proof that I must be doing something right. Last but not least, thank you to my family. My parents, who have provided the best for me and I couldn’t be more grateful. My best friend and partner in crime, for being by my side no matter what (and for photographing my crazy ass). My furbabies, Gunner & Lilly, who give me the most joy in the world. And finally, a small thank you to myself for staying true to what I believe in and always fighting, even when the going gets tough.
What are your feelings about Thanksgiving?
To be honest, I was never really crazy about Thanksgiving. Aside from the adored family gatherings, I wasn’t really hyped up on the food. To this very day, I still don’t fully enjoy Thanksgiving food. It may come as a shocker, but I’m not a huge fan of turkey…or stuffing, or cranberries, or bread pudding. I do love the mashed potatoes though and because of my distaste for turkey, we always get a ham! When it comes to dessert, I’m actually not a fan of anything pumpkin…and apple pie is just okay to me. You must all be wondering what the hell I like then. It’s funny, I actually grew to love pecan pie! Especially when it’s warmed. (Fun fact: I’m actually an extremely picky eater LOL but I’m working on it!) Even though I’m not a huge fan of all the food, I am still prepared for that food baby! I actually named mine Oscar, and he is very excited!
On a side note, I never really liked the idea of designating one day for all of us to suddenly appreciate and show our gratitude to everything we’re thankful for. To some degree, I do understand that this day is in celebration of everything, to bring loved ones together, and to remind us to be thankful however we should always be thankful. We shouldn’t rely on one day out of the year to appreciate kindness.
Enough Thanksgiving talk, what about this outfit?!
Alright, moving on to this fall fit, I’ve been obsessed with this lapel coat from VIPme. You can never go wrong with black and white! The addition of white really accentuates the coat to a different level, adding some more flair to a typical classic black coat. Plus, who doesn’t like a checkered pattern? I find that this pattern more closely resembles grids than checkers though.
Can you feel the monochromatic vibes? What about the minimalistic vibes? I can’t get over how simply chic and sleek this coat is. It seriously marks off both to the T and would be any fashionistas staple item. The best part is the material! I wish you all can feel it from the screen but since you can’t, the best way I can describe it is a soft, silky, and stretchy! Don’t be fooled though, because even with this thinner material, it still keeps you pretty warm. Plus, the stretchiness is a major bonus as it allows you to move more freely while still conforming to your body.
Another small detail, that I find extremely important, is the pockets! The other black coat I have has the most shallow pockets ever. I definitely stopped using it when I’m not carrying a bag because that’s the reason why I had to get a new phone. Short story, I placed my phone in my pocket and it flew out into the toilet. Lesson learned. I need a coat with roomy pockets to make sure that the contents I put in there don’t fall out when I walk and especially when I sit. It’s safe to say that this lapel coat passed the test and I’m so happy!
LOL, if you decide to pay attention to minute details, you can actually see my phone chilling on my leg. It’s actually inside the coat pocket and as you can see for yourself, the pocket is super roomy and holds it well! Being a bigger phone (Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge), it’s great to know that the pockets have extra space to hold it securely. (Sorry guys, I’m not an iPhone fan, at all)
Pairing this coat with an all black outfit is one way to wear it! I’m sporting this super warm sweater from Aeropostle (they still exist?!) and high waisted jeans from Zara! Slipped on my Steve Madden OTK’s and made my way down town. I bet this coat would look amazing with an all white outfit or a monochrome mix.
With all that said, I wish you all a very happy, healthy, and food baby worthy Thanksgiving! Enjoy spending time with your loved ones or if you’re out of USA, then I hope you enjoy potatoing at home 🙂
P.S. If you want to grab this lapel coat from VIPme or check out any of their items, be sure to use code “Jenn384” for $5 off orders over $50.

November 24, 2016I love this trench jacket and the colors are perfect for us all black lovers. =) I love Thanksgiving too more than Christmas just because it truly is about gratitude and not all about gifts. Gifts are great but sometimes the meaning gets lost in the holidays when it is about what to get for everyone. Thanksgiving is such a lovely time to gather with loved ones and just reminesce and enjoy each other. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and eat some pecan pie! =) xoxo, Christine

November 24, 2016Happy Thanksgiving, Jenn! I totally get what you mean about the oddness of designating just one day to be thankful, but I’m not gonna lie, I often take such things for granted at times so it’s nice to have an official reminder to stop and take a moment to be thankful haha! I love your coat, and I definitely love it even more because of those deep pockets. I loooove pockets!

November 24, 2016I totally agree – while it’s great we have a holiday for showing thanks, it shouldn’t just me limited to this one day. As I’ve gotten older, I feel a lot more appreciation for the opportunities I have and the fact that I can freely work without any health issues. Hope you had a lot of delicious food today 🙂

November 25, 2016Totally agree with you babe. we should be grateful and thankful throughout the year instead just devoting one day of the year doing it. I recently wrote a post to review our year giving that it’s almost the end of 2016. I personally found those reviews make me appreciate life and the people around me a little more 🙂
Btw, happy thanksgiving.

November 25, 2016Even though we don’t have thanksgiving in Australia, I love reading posts about what everyone is thankful for. We should all be thankful all year round but to have a day to it also helps those who struggle with displaying their emotion have an avenue to express

November 25, 2016I love this lapel coat darling! It looks fantastic on you! I’m obsessed with the OTK boots too 😉
as for Thanksgiving, I have to admit I learned to like this celebration througouth the years when I came in Canada 13 years ago. I’ve always been all about Christmas because that’s what we already celebrated in Grand back home. I do think we should always be thankful for all the little things in our lives. But I guess that Thanksgiving is all about being with the whole family again and enjoying the time together

November 25, 2016I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I actually love reading about what everyone is thankful for, though I wish we would cover topics like that more frequently throughout the year rather than just one one day 🙈 I also love this coat. Such a classy style with the grid pattern. Definitely fabulous for the winter!

November 25, 2016This look is such a fab idea for thanksgiving! Busy prints and dark colors hide a food baby the best. I love your thankful list. I’m thankful for family and friends and good food. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it brings everyone together!

November 26, 2016Happy Thanksgiving babe! Thank you for sharing this post with us! I love that jacket on you so much! I really need one like this and wishing I can actually wear it myself! It is so not cold in California to be able to wear a thick jacket like this. Love how you put this outfit together! Thanks for sharing! Hope you have a great weekend.

November 27, 2016I’m from a cultural background that actually makes food “from scratch” basically every day so I don’t get the hype around Thanksgiving food either… what I do love however is the idea of having a day when you’re truly thankful for all the great things in life. I do that every day though so it’s really not a biggie for me either. 🙂
And I love the lapel coat on you sweetie! 😀

November 27, 2016I am 100% with you babe – totally agree that dedicating just one day of the year to show gratitude doesn’t seem right. We have all been blessed with so many wonderful things in life and should be grateful for it every single day. Having said that, I am not complaining about a day to stuff ourselves with food 😉 That jacket looks amazing on you! Hope you had a great Thanksgiving weekend love.
