Now what? What now?
We all come to a point in our life where we’re like, “now what?” This could be because you set a goal and you accomplished it (yay you!) but now you don’t know what to do with yourself. Or, you finally got to a place where you’re content, happy, and satisfied but in the back of your mind you’re thinking, “now what?” So what do you do when you come to this concluded funk of what’s next?
Unfortunately, I don’t have the magic answer for you. HAH, even sitting here writing this blog post has really got me saying, “now what?” What am I going to write about for this week? What photos should I use? It starts to become a daunting question where I’m literally scrambling the night before or morning of to bust out some cohesive words. To be honest, I saw this post coming a mile away. It may be that my shirt conveniently says “NOW WHAT”, but let’s not jump to conclusions ;).So now what? After one hour of staring at my blinking cursor and wrecking my brain, it finally hit me! I’m going to give you some tips on how to figure out what’s next when you’re in the same funk I am.
Now what step #1: Go with the flow
Do what feels natural! Basically anything that puts that smile on your face, because the most important thing is that you’re happy. This means not getting frustrated that you don’t have a clue in the world. Embrace it. Walk with it. Let it run its course!
Now what step #2: Think!
Think about some short and long term goals. Is there anything that recently piqued your interest that you want to tackle next? Maybe it’s reading a new book, learning a new language, cleaning out your closet, finding a new show to binge, exploring a new part of town, practice sports – literally anything you can think of. Come up with a few things and make a list. I’d suggest to separate them by short and long so that it’s easier to refer to. Organization helps a lot of things. Once you got your list down, pick one thing to get started on. As you understand your limitations, you can choose to take on more goals at a time or stay put.
Now what step #3: Execute!
Voila! You got your list of things to do and as you pick one, three, five things to start on, you have now graduated to the final stage: being busy. You don’t need to worry or fret over what’s next anymore! Your now what question has been answered (woohoo!) and now as you ace each goal, cross that sucker off your list and I promise it’ll put a little more pep in your step. The simple act of crossing off words on a piece of paper can feel so rewarding haha! It’s really about the little things in life.
Did steps 1-3… Now what?!
Oh, you’re still here? HAHA. Sorry bud, but the next step is to repeat 1-3 again. Life is an ongoing work in progress and you’re constantly building yourself up and improving. There will always be an unlimited supply of possibilities, goals, and steps to take to make you a better version of yourself; whether that’s through experience, knowledge, or just skill. Keep pushing your boundaries, never give up, and always remember to give yourself a break sometimes!
