Hotel Ork – Hveragerði, Iceland | Full Review

Hotel Ork in Iceland Full Review

Continuing my Iceland Wanderlust With Jenn series – I’m going to share with you a fully detailed review of my stay at Hotel Ork.

Hotel Ork

Hotel Ork is located in Hveragerði, Iceland – also known as “health village” since it falls in the hot springs capital of Iceland. They have a full array of accommodations, such as complimentary breakfast buffet, a restaurant (HVER), a heated pool with a slide, hot tubs and a geothermal spa, as well as a game room and meeting rooms available for use. The staff is super friendly and multi-lingual making the stay very comfortable.

The hotel itself recently went under construction for a huge expansion, introducing 78 new rooms: Superior, Junior Suites, and Suites. The expansion finished in May 2018 and is now fully operational and open for booking.

The location was amazing! We were very close by a gas station, supermarket, and bakery which were super convenient and helpful to have near us. In addition, the hotel was in a prime location that made it easy for us to travel to a bunch of iconic places everyone should visit when in Iceland.

Hotel Ork: Junior Suite

We had the lucky opportunity to check into a newly furnished Junior Suite which included a luxe bathroom, a large desk, a living room and dining room space, as well as a private bedroom. The room itself was so new that it still had that new room smell LOL!

Hotel Ork’s Restaurant: HVER

HVER Restaurant is a beautiful restaurant with a fully equipped bar to tend to your dining needs. You have the choice of an a la carte menu or group pairings. Happy hour is everyday from 4 to 6 pm.

We had dinner here on our first night and the food was exquisite. The presentation and quality of each dish was so well prepared and crafted! I would highly recommend visiting HVER for a memorable dining experience.

We started off with some wine and warm bread. I got a Pinot Grigio which was delightfully sweet and smooth. For our starter, I ordered the salmon which was delicious! As a main course, I had the arctic char and it was the best arctic char dish I’ve had the entire trip and in my entire life. I would hands down want to have this dish again on repeat. Shirley got the lamb as her main course and the meat was so tender! As for dessert, I ordered the chocolate cake (similar to a lava cake) with ice cream and berries. Shirley got the classic Icelandic dessert, Skyr, which was served with sorbet and it was so light and refreshing! We each got cappuccinos and ended our night with a massive food coma.

In conclusion, we had a wonderful stay at Hotel Ork! I’m sure you can tell how we made ourselves quite at home, to say the least. I’m so happy we had the opportunity to stay here, especially right after the expansion. It’s a beautiful hotel with amazing service and quality accommodations. Highly recommend staying here if you have the opportunity to visit!
